What We Believe

What We Believe

First Presbyterian Church stands within the Reformed theological tradition and is part of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). We are a community shaped by Scripture, guided by grace, and called to share God’s love in the world.

About God

We believe in one triune God — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
We belong to God in life and in death.
God continually shows grace and steadfast love, sustaining creation and uniting us through the communion of the Holy Spirit.

About Jesus Christ

We believe that Jesus Christ is both fully human and fully God.
As the Son of God, Jesus came into the world to proclaim God’s reign and to bring good news to all people.
He was crucified for the sins of the world, raised from the dead by the power of God, and ascended into heaven, where he reigns as Lord and Savior.

About Humanity

We believe that every person is created in God’s image and is inherently good.
Yet we all turn away from God, ignoring God’s commandments and choosing our own way.
Even in our sin, God reaches out to us with justice, mercy, and everlasting love — calling us back into relationship and renewing us through grace.
